‘It Gave Me Hope’

In recent years the screenwriters have been getting major press.  First, their was Diablo Cody for Juno and in 2009 their was Dustin Lance Black for Milk.  Dustin started by thanking the cast and crew but his speech like the subject of his film became a rally to the rights of gay and lesbian people.

‘Nameless Faceless Women of Color’

There is those times in award show history when the winner is completely blindsided and caught so off guard Halle Berry’s win for Monster’s Ball was just that.  She dedicated her award to the nameless women faces of color in film.  Halle Berry is the first and so far only African American women to win for Best Actress.

The Streets of Heaven

One of the most heartfelt and emotional speeches ever delivered was by Tom Hanks in 1993 for Philadelphia.  Philadelphia was a groundbreaking movie in terms of its content and portrayal of a less than normal couple and their battle with AIDS.  Towards the end of Tom Hanks speech he speaks up about AIDS and utters the words “the streets of heaven are to crowded with angels”.  This will forever been an iconic phrase used to describe those who died of AIDS.

Sacheen Littlefeather for Brando

One of the most interesting acceptance speeches ever.  Marlon Brandon decided to dedicate his speech to the ill treatment of Native Americans in film.  In his place Sacheen Littlefeather took the stage and spoke of these injustices.  It was meet with both negative and positive reinforcement from the crowd.  Brandon won for his role in The Godfather.
